physiotherapy-knee

We proudly provide our Nanaimo clients with a 1-hour physiotherapy assessment and 30-minute physiotherapy treatments. This allows for thorough evaluation, proper patient education, precise exercise prescription and multiple treatment techniques to get you better faster.

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy utilizes a wide selection of techniques, such as manual stretching, friction massage, trigger point and myofascial release, to restore normal length and mobility to soft tissues. Joint mobilization techniques are utilized to restore full range of motion in a joint, following loss of mobility.

Functional Dry Needling (Intramuscular Stimulation)

Functional Dry Needling (FDN) is a specialized technique used by physiotherapists to treat pain arising from muscles and/or nerves. It involves the insertion of a needle into an area of a muscle called a trigger point. The needle produces a reflex response, which deactivates the trigger point and relaxes the muscle. Deactivating the trigger point reduces pain, restores muscle length and improves function. FDN is not appropriate for every client and thus an initial physiotherapy assessment is required to determine if it is appropriate for you.

Electrophysical Modalities

Electrical modalities, such as ultrasound, neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and interferential current (IFC) are all designed to stimulate tissue healing, reduce pain and swelling and to restore normal tissue function.

Exercise Prescription

Exercise prescription plays a crucial role in injury prevention, recovery, pain management and general good health. Whether you are post-surgical, looking to improve your athletic abilities or managing a systemic condition such as arthritis, we will work with you to design an individualized exercise program.

Hydrotherapy

Water provides a near weightless environment were individuals can work at a comparable intensity to land based exercises but for longer and without discomfort or post exercise soreness. It is able to improve muscular function after injury, manage arthritic pain, strengthen weak muscles and restore joint motion. An initial physiotherapy assessment is required to take place first to determine if this type of therapy would be beneficial for you.

Group and individualized hydrotherapy programs are available. Click here for more details on classes and the natural healing properties of water.
